Ride for Reed

RAGBRAI 52 Day 6 Cedar Falls to Oelwein

Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa

Hi, meet Reed, (and his mom and dad, Erika and Jesse). Reed had a very rare terminal genetic disease called Vanishing White Matter Disease. He was one of only roughly 300 people worldwide. Sadly, Reed passed away 7 months ago at the age of 12. Over the last 11 years, Reed’s parents have put in a lot of effort to bring awareness, advocate, and fundraise for VWM disease. Reed's mama had knee replacement surgery in April, a surgery she had to delay due to Reed's care. After her surgery, she set a goal to ride one day of RAGBRAI 52 just 3 months after her surgery. Part of the route starts just 20 miles from where they live, so that was the perfect day to jump in on the ride. Today, they attempt to ride from Cedar Falls to Oelwein, roughly 38 miles. Today, they are riding for Reed, for the challenge, and for the mission to continue to find a cure for VWM.

How can you help find a cure for VWM?

  1. Donate for as many miles as you wish to sponsor

  2. Share this page (or our post), drop a few words of support, a few good emojis in the comments on the post, like, and tag a friend to do the same

Every dollar raised for the ride will go to support critical work being done at Dr. Bonkosky's lab in Utah
